Joe Taslim is an Indonesian actor and martial artist. He is best known for his roles in the films The Raid (2011) and Fast & Furious 6 (2013). He has also appeared in the television series Warrior (2019) and Into the Badlands (2015–2019). Taslim was born in Palembang, Indonesia, on 23 June 1981. He began his martial arts training at the age of 10, and by the age of 18 he had earned a black belt in judo. He went on to compete in judo tournaments, winning a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in 2005. In 2010, Taslim made his acting debut in the Indonesian action film The Raid. The film was a critical and commercial success, and Taslim's performance earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 2012 Indonesian Film Festival. He went on to appear in the 2013 action film Fast & Furious 6, and in the 2015–2019 television series Into the Badlands. Taslim has also appeared in several other films, including Star Trek Beyond (2016), The Night Comes for Us (2018), and Mile 22 (2018). In July 2019, Taslim was cast as Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat, set for release in 2021.
In May 2013, it was reported that Taslim would star in the action thriller film The Night Comes for Us. In September 2014, pre-production on the film was halted and the script was instead adapted as a graphic novel. The film was eventually released by Netflix on October 19, 2018. In 2016, he played an antagonist character, Manas, a former first officer of Captain Balthazar Edison (played by Idris Elba), Anderson Le, turned into an alien in Star Trek Beyond. In 2017, Taslim was cast in the role of Li Yong in the Cinemax action series, Warrior. The series premiered on April 5, 2019.
Taslim appeared in the feature film Fast & Furious 6 (2013), as the villainous Jah, a mercenary who uses his martial arts to fight two of the film's protagonists, Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) and Han Seoul-Oh (Sung Kang).
