Abena Osei Asare is a Ghanaian politician and the current Minister of Finance in the Nana Akufo-Addo government. She was born on 16 January 1979 in Accra, Ghana. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Master of Science degree in Development Economics from the University of Sussex, UK. Prior to her appointment as Minister of Finance, she served as the Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of Budget and Economic Policy from 2017 to 2021. She was also the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry from 2013 to 2017. Abena Osei Asare is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and has been a Member of Parliament for the Atiwa East Constituency since 2013. She is married with two children.

Abena contested and won the New Patriotic Party parliamentary seat for Atiwa East Constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana. She won this seat during the 2016 Ghanaian general elections. She contested against one other candidate namely, Asante Foster of the National Democratic Congress . Abena won the election by obtaining 17,399 votes of the 22,486 cast, representing 77.81 percent of total valid votes.
Abena Osei–Asare has worked as the Assistant Director for the New York University in Ghana between the period of (2004 and 2007) and also as customer team leader (2007-2009) and dealer for the Treasury Department (2009–12) both at Barclays Bank Ghana Limited. In the year 2000 she became a member of the New Patriotic Party and it was on the ticket of this political party that she had contested for the Member of Parliament of the then newly created constituency Atiwa East (Eastern Region) during the 2012 parliamentary elections.
Abena Osei Asare had her secondary education from Wesley Girls High School-Cape-Coast (1995–97), she later acquired her Tertiary education from the University of Ghana, where she studied Economics and Geography. She is a member of the ACCA and has a certificate in Dealing from ACI (Financial Markets Association).
